Morocco awakens the senses — the scent of spices in the souk, the warmth of freshly baked bread, the rhythm of daily life unfolding in courtyards and kitchens.

Our Morocco culinary retreat is an immersive small-group experience designed for travellers who want to understand a place through its food and culture. Hosted with trusted local partners and rooted in genuine relationships, this food and culture retreat combines hands-on cooking sessions, tastings, guided exploration and time to rest and reflect.

You will learn traditional Moroccan recipes, explore the spices and techniques that shape the cuisine, visit producers and share generous meals around long tables. Alongside the richness of discovery, there are moments of stillness, companionship and comfort — allowing you to travel deeply without feeling rushed.

Welcoming solo travellers and couples alike, this Morocco retreat balances cultural immersion with thoughtful pacing and warm hospitality, creating an experience that feels both expansive and personal.

From November to March, when much of northern Europe is still held in winter, Morocco offers warmth, colour and a sense of life lived outdoors. This thoughtfully designed week brings you into the heart of Moroccan food and culture while allowing you to travel at a measured, unhurried pace. Based at a private villa just outside the city of Marrakech, the retreat combines cooking, tastings, guided exploration and time to rest, all held within a small, considered group. From the moment you arrive, every detail is quietly taken care of, allowing you to settle in, feel at ease, and experience Morocco with depth, care and genuine connection.

A considered way to travel

There comes a point when travel is no longer about seeing as much as possible, but about being properly looked after while you are away. About warmth, reassurance, and a sense that someone has quietly considered every detail on your behalf.
This week in Morocco is designed for that way of travelling. From the moment you arrive, you are met, guided and supported. There is no pressure to keep up, no need to plan or decide, and no sense of being hurried from one experience to the next. The days unfold at a humane pace, allowing you to enjoy where you are without having to hold everything together.

Why Morocco, and why with me

I first travelled to Morocco in the early 1980s, and over more than forty years it has become a place I return to out of affection rather than novelty. Through time and repeated visits, I have been welcomed into homes and kitchens, and formed relationships that allow me to move through the country with understanding and respect.

What I share with you during this retreat comes from those years of return. This is not a version of Morocco designed for tourists, but the Morocco I know — generous, layered, and deeply rooted in everyday life. My role is to offer context, to open doors gently, and to help you experience the country in a way that feels natural rather than staged.

Where we stay

We are based at a calm and beautifully run villa just outside Marrakech. Surrounded by gardens, it offers space, privacy and a welcome sense of ease between outings.

The villa is owned and lived in by Abdel and Heather, whose style of hosting is warm, attentive and unpretentious. Alongside Julianne and their small local team, they create an atmosphere where everything runs smoothly without ever feeling formal. The all-female kitchen team prepares daily meals using traditional Moroccan techniques, producing food that is fragrant, generous and deeply nourishing.

Whether in a room, a suite or one of the garden tents, accommodation is comfortable and restorative. Traditional textiles, good beds, well equipped en-suite bathrooms and quiet corners make it easy to retreat, read, or simply sit and let the pace of the day soften.

The rhythm of the week

From the moment you land at Marrakech airport, you are met and looked after. I will be there, along with the hosts of our villa, to welcome you into a deliberately small group of guests. Keeping numbers low is central to the way I work. It creates ease, unforced conversation, and a sense that you are part of something held and considered, rather than being moved through a programme.

The week unfolds at a measured pace, balancing discovery with rest. We begin gently, with time to arrive, unpack and settle in. Our first visit is to a small artisanal market, offering a useful introduction to Moroccan craftsmanship and quality before you explore the city more widely. As evening falls, we pause for a drink on a rooftop terrace, watching the light soften over Marrakech as the call to prayer moves across the city and the pace of the day naturally slows, before returning to the villa for dinner.

Cooking is woven naturally through the days. We cook together in a relaxed, hands-on way, focusing on classic Moroccan dishes prepared with care rather than complication. You learn how flavour is built slowly, how spices are used for depth and balance, and how these techniques translate easily into everyday cooking at home. Olive oil and honey tastings sit alongside this, helping you recognise quality and understand how these ingredients nourish as well as delight.

Exploring, sharing and time to be

With a trusted local guide, we explore Marrakech at a comfortable pace. The souks, historic sites and neighbourhoods are approached with context and explanation, so you never feel overwhelmed or unsure. Another day takes us into the Atlas Mountains, where we are welcomed into a Berber family home for tea, enjoy lunch in a valley of striking beauty, and spend time at Anima Gardens, with space to walk, sit, or simply be.

We will spend one afternoon at a women’s training academy baking alongside the chefs there. It is a quieter, more reflective experience, offering insight into how food can support independence and dignity. You leave with cookies, but more importantly with a deeper understanding of the lives and resilience behind the meals.

Meals out are chosen with care and reflect different sides of Moroccan life. One is a garden lunch during our mountain day, surrounded by aromatic plants and the sound of water, where cooking is closely tied to what is grown on the land around us. Another is a calm, restorative meal in the city, set within a walled garden that encourages ease and conversation. Our final evening is deliberately different — energetic, lively and celebratory — a fitting way to close the week together.

My role as your host

Throughout the week, I am present to hold the structure so that you do not have to. I guide, interpret and support, noticing when you need company and when you would prefer space. I bring my professional experience as a MasterChef winner, teacher and olive oil and honey sommelier, but above all I bring care and attention.
The group is intentionally small, with between eight and twelve guests. This allows for genuine connection, thoughtful conversation, and an atmosphere in which everyone feels seen and at ease. Many guests travel alone and quickly find that companionship arises naturally.
